Dr. McCombie joins top industry at Cardiovascular Health Tech
Recent advances in wearables, "nearables", and machine learning have created opportunities for unprecedented monitoring of cardiovascular disease. Such monitoring holds promise for mitigating the burden of the number one killer worldwide.
This February 14-16, 2022, the IEEE EMBS Technical Committee (TC) on Cardiopulmonary Systems and Physiology-Based Engineering (CSPE) are holding the Cardiovascular Health Tech Virtual Conference 2022 from 8 AM - 10 AM Eastern time.
The session chairs and speakers are top academic researchers, technical directors of major companies, CEOs of companies, and clinical key opinion leaders. Each session will include Q&A from the live audience and conclude with a panel discussion amongst all participants. By bringing together leading experts, the conference may help accelerate further progress in the field.
Sotera Wireless’ CEO, Dr. Devin McCombie, Ph.D., is among the chosen speakers for the "Cuffless Blood Pressure Measurement" session on the 14th to speak about continuous blood pressure monitoring on the general hospital ward.
The session will be chaired by Dr. Carmen Poon, Ph.D. of GMed IT Ltd., assistant professor at the Chinese University of Hongkong, and Dr. Alberto Avolio, Ph.D., professor of Biomedical Engineering at Macquarie University. Dr. McCombie will be engaging on the Cuffless Blood Pressure Measurement panel alongside Dr. George Stergiou, MD, Professor of Medicine (Hypertension) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Dr. Jurgen Fortin, Ph.D., CEO of CNSystems.
Dr. McCombie, a world expert in physiological monitoring, started his education at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where he received a bachelor's degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering. His studies continued at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he received two Masters degrees and a doctorate in Engineering. In 2008, Dr. McCombie completed his thesis on 'Wearable Blood Pressure Monitor using Adaptive Calibration of Pulse Transit Time,' which is the basis of Sotera Wireless' ViSi Mobile cNIBP (Continuous Non-Invasive Blood Pressure) calculations.
Sotera Wireless is a San Diego, CA-based healthcare technology company dedicated to producing the industry's most accurate, comprehensive wearable monitoring system. The ViSi Mobile System enables ICU-level continuous monitoring in the general ward and beyond. The system is a wearable platform that continuously monitors all patient vital signs (Pulse Rate, Heart Rate, ECG, SpO2, cNIBP (Continuous Non-Invasive Blood Pressure), systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP), Respiration Rate, Skin Temperature, Posture, Fall Detection) and detects Life-Threatening Arrhythmias (AFIB, AFIB RVR, VFIB, Asystole) while wirelessly communicating data to clinicians. System alerts can be tailored to notify clinicians of fluctuations that signal deterioration in a patient's health. This use of surveillance monitoring reduces Rapid Response Team activations, reduces Length of Stay (LOS), and reduces transfers to the ICU while providing insight into early physiological deterioration and preventing adverse events.
The USD$15 registration fee includes access to all the sessions live and through February. Register here.
